MANILA, Philippines – Also shown at the Third World Premieres Film Festival (WPFF) of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) are restored Filipino classic films like Ishmael Bernal’s Pagdating sa Dulo, starring the late legendary actress Rita Gomez and Vic Vargas. The film opened the festival last June 29.

The other Filipino film classics, digitally scanned and restored from the budding collection of the National Film Archives of the Philippines (NFAP), are Lav Diaz’s Batang West Side; Briccio Santos’ Damortis; Gerardo de Leon’s Noli Me Tangere; Kidlat Tahimik’s Turumba; Lino Brocka’s White Slavery; and the late Leonardo Belen and Quin Baterna’s Ginauhaw Ako, Ginagutom Ako.

This is the very first Ilonggo movie, produced by an Ilonggo (Quin under his own Ilonggo Productions) and directed by an Ilocano, who were good friends and classmates at UST. They shared the same passion for poetry, film and literary endeavors. Belen’s other films include Mag-ingat Ka, Ikaw Ang Susunod, Stop Abortion, Balikbayan and Pinoy Super Kid. Quin served in the local broadcast industry for decades and was also editor of Hiligaynon magazine aside from being a successful realtor.

Ginauhaw Ako, Ginagutom Ako starred Susan Henson, Bernard Bonnin, Rosemarie Gil and Quin’s daughter Louise Belle (based in Brussels with her Belgian journalist husband and daughter Simone) who was the child star in the movie. The movie will be shown again on July 10 at Cinematique Centre Manila.
