Assassination Classroom season 2 ‒ Episode 25 #JHedzWorlD
‘);
Well, I guess that’s it; time to hand out the diplomas and call it a day. With their time as Koro Sensei’s students now over, the members of Class E attend their school’s graduation ceremony. A swarm of reporters descends on them as soon as the event wraps up, but the kids from Class A step in to make sure their old rivals can leave without causing a scene. The school itself goes through a changing of the guard, with Irina and Karasuma moving on to their next assignments and the principal stepping down from his position. The characters return to the old school building seven years later, as all of the Class E alumni are eager to catch up with one another and reminisce. The only former student not in attendance is Nagisa, who’s already busy teaching his own class of seemingly irredeemable delinquents.
Since Assassination Classroom had already resolved its major storylines over the last few weeks, this episode is more of an epilogue than a finale. It’s a “life goes on” kind of ending, with much of its screen time devoted to showing what’s next for the characters. It also offers a neater, more unconditionally happy ending than the episode before it, for better or worse. Koro Sensei is still gone, and there are still a few emotional moments here and there, but the overwhelming message left over is that everyone will be alright without him. While I wouldn’t have minded seeing the series end a week ago, I’ll admit that it’s nice to have a more relaxed farewell to the story and characters.
In some ways, this is more of a reflective episode than an emotional one. The fact that Class E no longer depends on Koro Sensei comes across as an affirmation of his teaching methods. We see his influence in the careers that the kids pursue, not to mention the ease with which these former underachievers seem to be handling life’s challenges. This arguably means as much for the series as it does for the characters; there was a time when it would’ve been inconceivable to have an episode of Assassination Classroom without Koro Sensei, but the rest of the cast has grown and developed to a point where the show can work pretty well without him.
Nagisa’s career path is perhaps the most interesting of the group, because it allows the series to come full circle. We already knew he’d be carrying the torch for Koro Sensei by becoming a teacher, but the scene of him taking on his first class of problem kids really drives the idea home. Though he sets it up with his own style, it’s easy to see the initial premise of the series echoed in the way Nagisa motivates his students by making himself a target for them to chase. Even without the heavy-handed visual metaphors, it would be obvious that a little bit of Koro Sensei is living on through Nagisa.
Topping last week’s emotional roller coaster ride would’ve been a very tall order, so it makes sense for this episode to go in a different direction. It makes up for its lower dramatic impact by giving the audience a chance to reflect on some of the show’s themes, and it makes a positive final impression in the process. If the goal of a final episode is to make the audience remember a series fondly, then this is a pretty respectable effort.
This final season of Assassination Classroom has been impressive overall. The series has been able to use its initial strong points as a foundation to develop a compelling cast and tell an engaging story. It’s always been a good-looking show with a clever sense of humor, but it’s managed to grow into a smart series that can handle a serious plot arc just as well as it can tell a joke. The series has been hit-or-miss at times, but it’s much easier to forgive a show’s mistakes when it ends on a strong note. While I’ll miss writing about it from week to week, Assassination Classroom deserves a lot of credit for knowing when and how to wrap things up.
Rating: B+

China says ahead of UN ruling: ‘We’re not afraid of trouble’ #JHedzWorlD

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives for a ceremony to mark the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Friday, July 1, 2016. AP PHOTO
BEIJING—China will never compromise on sovereignty, President Xi Jinping said Friday ahead of an international tribunal ruling over Beijing’s maritime claims, as he celebrated the Communist Party’s 95th anniversary.
The ruling party must maintain absolute power in the country, strengthen its military and enhance its role on the world stage, Xi told serried ranks of top officials in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, to rapturous applause.
“No foreign country… should expect us to swallow the bitter pill of harm to our national sovereignty, security or development interests,” Xi said, adding: “We are not afraid of trouble.”
His remarks come as regional tensions rise over Beijing’s claims to nearly all of the South China Sea, with the US sending naval patrols close to artificial islands Beijing has built in the disputed waters.
Xi took an apparent stab at the US, saying: “We will not show up at other people’s front doors to flex our muscles. That does not show strength or scare anyone.”
An international tribunal in The Hague will rule on July 12 in a case brought by the Philippines challenging China’s claims in the strategic waterway.
Beijing insists that the Permanent Court of Arbitration has no jurisdiction over the issue and has boycotted the proceedings.
Since assuming the party’s top post in 2012, Xi has rapidly consolidated power while overseeing a more assertive foreign policy and a tighter authoritarian stance at home.
Chinese wisdom
In his speech, Xi heaped praise on the ruling party and vowed to maintain the country’s centralized Communist-led political system.
“All party comrades must remember what we are constructing is socialism with Chinese characteristics, and not any other ideology,” he said.
The Communist party, which had some 88.7 million members at the end of last year, must maintain “absolute leadership,” he said.
Xi has won popularity with a much-publicized anti-corruption campaign that has claimed the scalps of several former top-ranked officials.
“The biggest threat to our ruling party is corruption,” he said, calling for a “complete purification of the party’s political environment”.
He credited the Communist party with expelling “imperialism” from Chinese soil, and stressed the country’s economic growth in recent decades.
He stressed the need for “Mao Zedong thought” but did not refer to the tens of millions killed in famines and political campaigns launched by the founder of the People’s Republic.
June was a mix of highs and lows for me. And I felt both at their extremes. *sigh* While I welcome being extremely happy (since that is rare for me), I don’t like feeling extremely low… it’s so hard for me to get out once I’m there. Maybe some change is in order… but what? Hmmm…
Outings/Events in June:
– Saturday June 4 — was very sad that day. Lol… no more details here. It’s just to remind myself whenever I look back on this entry.
– Attended a co-worker’s wedding. I wore a nice dress, but my shoes and jacket didn’t match.
– Had “coffee” with a friend (“coffee” is in quotation marks, ‘cuz we both ordered other drinks). It was our first time actually hanging out instead of being part of some huge social gathering and we chatted until closing time (10:30 PM). It was nice and very fun! 😀 – Did an escape room for the 5th time (Escape Games Canada — Crossroads room). We got out, woooooot! ~~~~ – Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn achievements / news: -My Dragoon is level 60, yayyyy.
Exposures:
– (Food): Strawberry Shortcake Donut — This was another limited donut at Tim Hortons. The cream and strawberry filling was nice, but I found it a bit too sweet. Now I’ve tried them all! And I like the raspberry truffle donut the best. – (Food): Sushi Tacos! — It just sounded so weird that I had to try it. I had it non-spicy and I really enjoyed it.
Finished…
Watching:
– (Movie): Now You See Me 2 — Still fun, but I personally enjoyed the first movie more. Lula was a nice though slightly annoying addition. – (Movie): Django Unchained — Not bad. – (Movie): The Departed — I watched Infernal Affairs years ago, and was curious how this remake held up. It’s good. Just like in the original, I really hate the last scenes. – (Movie): Dorian Gray — I watched this mainly for Colin Firth. I’ll bet Colin loved delivering those snappy, cynical lines. It was a very good, interesting movie. I think if I was in Gray’s position I’d make very different choices, though. – (Movie): Eastern Promises — A friend suggested this movie to me, so I had no idea what to expect. It was good, but I don’t think I would ever watch it again. It made me uneasy at times. – (Movie): Enemy — This was really interesting, though quite creepy and intense.
Playing:
– (3DS): Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure — This is kinda like the Professor Layton games, but with rhythm games instead of puzzle games. I applaud its creativity and would recommend for at least one playthrough, but I have minor gripes, especially at the end.

That’s it for June. Here are some pics I took this month.
My Hatoful Boyfriend plushies came! I got these through backing this Kickstarter Project last year. They are so adorable. <3
I saw a ton of geese on a random day and decided to take a picture.
Salmon sushi tacos (non-spicy)! And lobster temari.
Ahh, Odin Sphere… what an awesome game. I still need to play this
re-make, but have been held up with other games *sigh*
I just saw these one day while cereal-shopping and figured let’s give it a try.
It’s pretty bleh, lol.
